Blackpool illuminations information for 2003

FIRE AND WATER

Real fire and water are two exciting new elements in one of the showpiece clifftop tableaux in this year's display.  Mixing historical themes, two Roman gladiators are featured holding flaming torches as they stand between three flowing fountains at the entrance to a Greek temple.  The result will be a 60 ft by 20 ft tableau with the working title 'Fire and Water' lit by a computerised lighting system and the latest hi-tech colour-changing floodlighting equipment.

ANIMAL MAGIC

In contrast, traditional illuminations at their finest will be seen by millions in 'Animal Boxes'.  A butterfly, tiger, peacock and fish are all animated and change colour in 19ft square boxes.

CAMERA CAPERS

Smile please you're on the illuminations camera. In yet another new development,
visitors will find themselves being photographed by 24 giant cameras and film which will produce colourful images of popular Blackpool icons in front of their very eyes.

JELLY MONSTERS

Watch out there's a monster about with a sweeter-than-sweet appetite.  Jelly Monsters is a new roadway section made up of 24 giant illuminated sweetie characters.  A multitude of colourful effects will be created by this feature made in the traditional style.

PYLON PARADE

In total contrast, high-tech strobes - as used on the Eiffel Tower - join other effects in a quarter-of-a-mile pylon extravaganza. Every single lamp on this section flashes to create a galaxy of light, while the pylons themselves mechanically rotate and flash simultaneously.

DYNAMIC DISCS

Electronically spelling out ever-changing patterns and designs, our 25 brand new LED discs incorporate the latest control technology - baffling passers-by with their technique.

LASERS

And this year, there's lasers too. The popular laser tableau promises a spectacle to behold, used in conjunction with other lighting effects.
